Applications to be the new Conservative candidate for Boston and Skegness open on Monday.

Last week we reported that the local party branch had opened applications, but a spokesman has confirmed that this has not yet taken place.

The constituency association issued a statement to say: “Adverts inviting applications from people wishing to be considered as a candidate will be placed from Monday, September 15, with final decisions expected to be made towards the end of October.

“The association will give further details soon about the procedures and timetable to be followed for selecting the candidate.”

The party had chosen MP Mark Simmonds to fight to retain his seat, but he recently announced his intention to stand down.
