Council plans compromise for disabled parkers

LEADING councillors will recommend disabled drivers get an extra half an hour’s parking for free as part of plans to start charge Blue Badge holders.

Boston Borough Council’s cabinet recommended its budget for the next financial year at a meeting yesterday.

The budget will now have to be approved by the full council on March 1 and includes steps to freeze council tax bills for the second year.

The council has come under fire for plans to increase parking charges and start charging Blue Badge holders.

Yesterday Coun Derek Richmond, portfolio holder for car parks, suggested that any Blue Badge holder who purchased a ticket get an extra half an hour to reflect the extra time it takes to get around the town.

The recommendation from cabinet is that the average Band D properties’ council tax should remain at £168.39.

Members say threy have strived to protect frontline services in the face of £800,000 Government cuts.
