A Friskney teenager was among the successful Royal Navy recruits on parade at HMS Raleigh to mark the successful end of basic training.

Trainee engineer technician (weapons engineering) Tom Worboys, 17, arrived at the training base in Cornwall in September. During a 10-week course he has been given a thorough induction into the Royal Navy, learning skills that he will rely upon throughout his time in the service. The course culminates with the passing-out-parade attended by families and friends.

The former Giles Academy student joined the Royal Navy to see the world.

He said: “Training was intense but feels like a massive achievement when you get through it.

“The highlight was the stretcher run with my classmates during week six, when we had to take turns carrying the stretcher during a run around the establishment as a squad.”

Tom’s next port of call is HMS Collingwood where he will learn about the Royal Navy’s weapons systems, safety procedures, electrical and electronic repair techniques and the basic of hydraulics and pneumatics.
