Opposition backs tonight’s disabled parking protest

OPPOSITION councillors say they support a silent demonstration in protest against controversial changes to parking charges in Boston.

Boston Disability Forum is planning the demonstration from 5.45pm to 6.15pm outside the borough council offices in West Street, before a special meeting to discuss parking charges, which now include charges for disabled drivers.

The BDF is upset that members will not be allowed to speak at the meeting tonight due to rules in the council’s consultation which restrict the questions that can be asked.

Boston Labour councillors wrote to The Standard to say: “This demo is to tell Boston Borough Council that it is shameful the way they have treated disabled drivers and even more shameful to not allow them to discuss their objections with you at your meeting.

“Is democracy really finally dead in Boston? With actions like this – it would appear that the answer is yes.”

The councillors are urging members of the public to join the demonstration.
