Levels of air pollution in the area are set to hit a ‘moderate’ level today (Friday) as areas further south are warned to be careful of heightened pollutants.

People in the south of England are being warned to be very careful and avoid doing strenuous physical activity as a combination of pollutants, winds and a small amount of Saharan dust are active, with the south east getting the worst of it.

However, the Boston, Skegness and Sleaford areas have been given a moderate risk level.

A statement on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs today said: ““Levels of air pollution are forecast to become High in many areas of eastern and especially south eastern England where levels could reach Very High for a time.

“This is due to a combination of pollutants trapped near the ground, a light southeasterly flow bringing additional pollutants from the continent and, in addition, a small amount of Saharan dust in the air. Across the rest of the United Kingdom, levels of air pollution are expected to be mainly Moderate. ““

Advice for people in our area includes adults and children with lung problems, and adults with heart problems, who experience symptoms, should consider reducing strenuous physical activity, particularly outdoors., however the general population has been told to ‘enjoy your usual outdoor activities’.

Temperatures in parts of England are set to be highest temps of the year for many, tipping 20C.
