PRIDE AWARDS: Carer Award

We need your votes to pick the top carer in this year’s Boston Standard Pride Awards...

Roberta has been nominated for her outstanding care of her elderly and ill mother Bessie, 94, and father Bob, 91.

Two-and-a-half years ago she moved in with her parents and gave them 24/7 care, helping them clean, shop and giving them personal care.

Bessie is affected by Parkinson’s disease and Bob suffers short-term memory loss.

Roberta manages the vegetable plot in the back garden and distributes surplus produce to the rest of the family.

She also caters for a number of family gatherings such as birthdays and anniversaries including Burns night.

*Gareth James

Gareth was nominated for the care he gives his wife Leanne and others.

Gareth, his wife and her three children met in 2001. Leanne suffers from a disability and other illness and was undergoing personal issues.

They moved away to start afresh, with Gareth becoming a full-time carer for Leanne, taking her to hospital appointments, supporting her through operations and helping out at the hydro pool at Pilgrim Hospital.

He will help anyone and has raised five children, supporting them through bad times, despite a bad shoulder.

His nominee said he has never let anyone down.
