An RAF caterering manager from Boston has been awarded a medal for his service during operations in Libya.

Flt Sgt Gary Newton, 47, was given the NATO medal in recognition of his service.

The married father-of-two is currently based at RAF Benson as the Officers’ Mess Manager, running a Mess that caters for hundreds of RAF officers.

He joined the RAF in 1982 as a caterer and in his time has served in countries including Germany, The Falklands, Northern ireland and Cyprus.

Gary was presented his medal by Air Vice-Marshall Stuart Atha.
