Rifka Chakkalakal, Tesco’s Community Food Connection programmes manager, said: “No food that can be eaten should go to waste, which is why we are really excited to start working on this initiative to ensure that any unsold food we have is made use of.

“We are looking forward to forging strong links with local charities and community groups in South Holland, Sutterton and the Deepings in order to use this initiative to support their efforts in helping vulnerable people in our community.”

Jane Francis of Holbeach Community Larder said: “Our local Tesco Superstore is already incredibly generous in donating food to us every week that would otherwise go to waste.”

Ian Evans, project manager of Boston Foodbank which includes Sutterton, said: “We have been working with Tesco and the Trussell Trust for some considerable time now which allows us to make twice-yearly, three-day collections at the Tesco store in Wyberton Fen.”
