THE need for the planned £600,000 replacement footbridge in Boston was all the more apparent last week after this hole appeared on the surface.

A member of the public allerted The Standard to the damage on St Botolph’s footbridge which has since been repaired by Lincolnshire County Council.

Richard Waters, principal engineer for the structures team at LCC, said: “We’re hoping to have a new structure in place by December 2013. However, until that time, we’ll continue to repair any defects as we become aware of them.”
