Students happy to make the grade

Boston's Kuk Sool Won club recently held its first grading of the year.

Approximately 70 per cent of the students, aged from five to 65, were invited to grade.

For lower belts, grading consisted of making sure the student knew and remembered the syllabus.

The requirements for senior belt students were much tougher. They were put on the spot and had to perform any form asked of them and had to explain every motion of the form; three mistakes and they failed the whole grading.

Gradings were:

Black tag 3+: Isabel Groves, Tim Thomas, Summer Bryan, Jessica Scuffham, Parvathy Kurup, Tess Hoyles, Ellie-May Padley,Finlay Bryan, Alex Whele, Laiba Imran, Fatima Imran, Shayla Johnson.

Dahn Bo Nim (black belt candidate) - Keegan Wright.

1st Black Stripe - Aaron Thomas, Riley Warren.

Brown Belt - Andrezej Thomaszyk, Gary Wright, Carl Richmond, Ellie Patton, Stefano Fiore, Josh Scuffham, Abigail Dunmore, Maira Saeed, Edan Bryan, Emilija Makareviciute, Martynas Makarevicius, Zak Hudson, Okasha Dar.

Brown Tag - Jose Quevedo, Josh Houghton, Maira Saheed, Jack Pittam, Finlay Pittam, Alex Gravestock.

Red Tag - Kyle Dell, Megan Bailey, Angus Martin.

Blue Belt - Rebecca Howard, Lola Lock, Drew Taylor, Bethany Garner, Anaya Yousaf, Raheen Yousaf, Zaid Gatta.

Blue Tag - Carlos Belascoain, Jack Garner, Sam Jackson, Harry Jackson, Benas Ambotas, Thomas Beck.

Yellow Belt - Sarah Scuffham, Andrew Pauly, Jarrell Williams, Tayo Bridges, Zac Fairbanks, Banafsha Mian, Jakub Szydl, Gracie Fairbanks, Elena Balascoain.

Yellow Tag - Michael Dore, Martin Russell, Molly Bertram, Molly Bertram.

Students will have to wait a week before certificates are issued by the World Kuk Sool Association.

Four members who were not eligible to grade but joined in for the experience were: Bradley White, Hugo Pereira, Ross Clemow and Torsten Groves.
