THE former Jakeman’s factory on Wormgate is to be transformed into a home after planners gave a change of use application the go-ahead.

Stringent conditions relating to the outside of the building have been applied to planning permission for the building, which fell out of use when it was considered no longer fit-for-purpose and the company moved to a different site in another part of Boston.

The building is considered to be of historical importance to Boston as, although it is not listed, it is the only remaining example of its type in the town, and an important part of the town’s Victorian heritage. It is thought it was used to make sweets from the late 19th Century.
