DISCOVER Boston’s darker history of matricide, infanticide, and more with a new book which is out now.

Murder and Crime Boston, by Louth author Douglas Wynn is a collection of 14 real-life stories from the area.

In terms of murder and mayhem, Boston and its surrounding villages has had its fair share of horrifying stories.

Many of the criminals who were caught suffered at the hands of the courts.

Covering the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, stabbings, shootings, poisonings, stranglings and suicides have all made it into the pages of the area’s history and this book.

They include the mother who killed her own children, a drunk lodger who killed his landlord, a policeman who was shot in Wyberton and the housekeeper who poisoned her own illegitimate child.

The book features well-researched stories of the young and old, husbands and wives, parents and children, and even complete strangers fall victim to murderous attacks.

The motives for these crimes ranged from overwhelming jealousy and blinding rage to calculated greed and petty disputes.

All the stories have been illustrated with both archive and modern photography.

Douglas Wynn is a retired college lecturer who now spends his time researching and writing books on true crime.

Murder and Crime Boston is available in bookstores now for £9.99.
