The (ice) cream of the crop

WHEN it comes to ice cream Boston’s Jennie Crunkhorn has got it licked!

Jennie, who works for Boston-based Skinners Ice Cream, has been voted National Mobiler of the Year by The Ice Cream Alliance – the official trade body for the ice cream industry.

The award was made in recognition of Jennie’s dedication to supplying her customers with their favourite treat seven days a week for seven months a year – never flaking out!

Jennie said: “I just love my job. Everyday I’m out and about meeting and chatting to people. I travel 500 miles a week serving towns and villages as well as attending events such as weddings, music festivals, fetes and sports days.

“I was given the challenge of setting up a new round and I have steadily built it up. The key is to have a great product and to provide a regular and reliable service.”

Andrew Caldwell, president of The Ice Cream Alliance, praised Jennie’s dedication and first class customer service.

“Jennie’s service is outstanding, a real gold standard. She keeps her van scrupulously clean, offers fantastic value for money and makes a huge commitment to ensuring customers across a large rural area have a regular and reliable ice cream service,” said Mr Caldwell, whose own family have been in the ice cream business for 100 years.

Jennie, 57, has been working for Skinners Ice Cream since 2007 and her green and white van is a familiar sight not only in Boston, but also Spilsby, Holbeach, Spalding, Sleaford and surrounding villages.

Skinners ice cream has changed little since the business was formed in 1936. The company only sell one flavour – vanilla – and there are no sauces or sprinkles.

Nick Briggs, whose grandfather Herbert Skinner founded the company, works in the business, based in Kingsway, with his mum and dad Jill and John Briggs.

He said: “We are delighted for Jennie who has been a fantastic addition to our team. She is so dedicated and hard working and thoroughly deserves this recognition.”
