Thousands expected to attend Latvian Festival at Boston’s PRSA

A HUGE Latvian festival event is coming to Boston on Saturday and up to 2,000 people are expected to attend.

The all-day Ligo Festival Latvian will take place at The Princess Royal Sports Arena (PRSA) in Great Fen Road, and is open to all nationalities.

Organiser Ziedonis Barbaks said: “We are expecting from 1,000 to 2,000 people to come along, including many Latvians from around the country.

“There are about 3,000 Latvians in Boston alone so it should be a big night.”

Among the many activites on the day, which runs from 9am-2am, includes visiting musical performers from Latvia, market food stalls, bonfire lighting at 8pm, ‘lusting midsummer dancing’ at 9pm, competitions, games and sporting activities.

The PRSA’s swimming pool and sauna will also be open for use and there will be a children’s creche available from noon-5pm on the day.

Mr Barbaks said many of the visitors will be camping on a site next to the PRSA for the festival, with others staying over at hotels in the town.

the celebrations are being held as part of the Latvian Jani - a festival traditionally held from June 23 to 24 to celebrate the summer solstice, the shortest night and longest day of the year.

Tickets cost £15 for the day with some of the proceeds going to Latvian charities.
