A shared cycleway and footpath could be put in place on Boston’s busy John Adams Way, if plans are given the go-ahead.
Lincolnshire County Council is planning to convert a length of the current footpath between Spain Lane and Shodfriars Lane into a ‘shared area’.
The authority says the stretch, which will be on both sides of the road, will be clearly marked out.
The plans have been criticised by Boston’s Disability Forum, which said it could be dangerous as people may be forced to jump out of the way of a cyclist – which many disabled people cannot do easily.
Spokesman Becky Wood said: “We predict a series of very near misses between path users and cyclists. There will be complaints about the dangers posed by bicycles rushing along the path.”
Plans are available to view at the Municipal Buildings in West Street, and comments can be made until April 17.
