A woman is in hospital with fractured ribs after a four-vehicle crash on the A17 near Swineshead.

It happened in Hoffleet Stow, between Bicker and Wigtoft, where three cars and a lorry collided at about 5.30am yesterday morning.

Firefighters used cutting gear to free a woman in her 40s from Coningsby who was treated by paramedics and then taken by ambulance to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital.

Two men suffered minor injuries but also went to hospital as a precaution.

Part of the A17 between Sutterton and Bicker Bar roundabouts was closed for about six hours to allow highways engineers to clear the scene.

The crash caused delays for rush-hour motorists heading to work, including Spalding Guardian reporter Lynne Harrison who said: “It took nearly 20 minutes for me to drive from Quadring to the Gosberton junction where you to turn for Spalding when this normally takes five to eight minutes.”
