Update: Lorry driver arrested after fatal A16 collision

Update: The driver of the lorry involved in a fatal collision on the A16 has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The 52-year-old driver of the Spanish-registered HGV was taken to Spalding Police Station for questioning following the incident at 12.50pm yesterday.

A 74-year-old man, who is believed to be from Boston, died at the scene after the Ford Focus he was driving collided with the lorry on the road between Sibsey and Stickney.

The road was closed until 10pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw either the Renault HGV or the red Ford Focus prior to the incident to contact the Collision Witness Hotline on 01522 558855

Thursday, 6pm: Police have confirmed that somebody died in the collision on the A16 earlier today.

A spokesman for the force has revealed that the crash, which took place this afternoon and involved a lorry and a vehicle, was in fact a fatal collision.

The road between Sibsey and Stickney where the incident took place, is closed and could remain so for some time, the spokesman said.

Thursday: The A16 is to remain shut between Stickney and Sibsey for an extended length of time following a ‘serious collision’.

Following the incident earlier today, a police spokesman confirmed work is still ongoing at the site of the serious collision to recover the lorry and car.

Although Lincolnshire Police are only confirming it as a ‘serious collision’ The Standard understands the coroners officer has attended the scene indicating it as a potential fatality.

Thursday, 1.56pm - The A16 is shut between Stickney and Sibsey this afternoon following a ‘serious collision’.

The crash was reported to police at 12.50pm.

A spokesman told The Standard: “It’s a serious collision involving a lorry and a vehicle. It’s not clear at this stage whether there are any casualties.”

Thursday, 1.45pm: Police are currently attending a road traffic collision halfway between Stickney and Sibsey this afternoon (Thursday).

Lincolnshire Police Road Policing Unit (@LincsRPU) tweeted about the incident at about 1.15pm, notifying drivers that the road will be closed.

They later said that there are road closures at the junction of A16 Main Road and Hall Lane, in Stickney, and the A16 Boston Road near the junction of Frithville Road and further south in Sibsey.
