UPDATE: Man dies in collision with train on level crossing between Sleaford and Spalding

A 57-year-old man has died after being in collision with a train between Sleaford and Spalding yesterday evening.

The incident was reported at 4.40pm to British Transport Police who attended the scene at Quadring level crossing along with local emergency services and Network Rail staff.

According to a BTP spokesman, the man died at the scene after the collision which is not being treated as suspicious. She said the man is from the Spalding area and next of kin have been informed.

Trains between Sleaford and Spalding were halted while investigations were carried out but were up and running again by 7.15pm, said a Network Rails spokesman.

He added: “A train broke down in the area in an unrelated incident which did have an impact on how long it took to get things back running again. Four services were cancelled and about one hour in delays.”
