VIDEO: The wonderful world of ‘grumpy’ cat Louis Armstrong

He has ‘all the time in the world’ to stare at birds out the window and play with toys – meet Louis Armstrong the winner of our Star Pets contest.

The Devon Rex cat was chosen out of dozens of entries – much to the delight of his owner, Anne Hawthorn, of Old Leake.

“I’m delighted but so surprised as the competition was so high,” she said. “I was convinced a dog would win.

“I’m utterly gobsmacked and it’s just lovely to think that he’s got his accolade.”

Despite his grumpy expression, Anne says he is a very content cat. And when The Standard met Louis he looked to be living the life of luxury with six fellow feline friends.

“He loves staring out the window at the birds and other cats – but he’s not happy if he gets an intruder,” said Anne. “He hasn’t been outside since October as he’s not keen on the cold weather – but he’ll start going out again around March/April.

“He’s got a really grumpy face at times – and won’t do what he doesn’t want
to do.”

Indeed, Anne said she took Louis to a cat show in Birmingham but the stubborn moggy refused to get out his pen for the judge.

“That’s when we knew we weren’t going to show him anymore,” said Anne, adding: “He’s called Louis Armstrong because I’m a fan of jazz and blues music – all my cats are named after well-known singers.”

Our Star Pets contest ran in association with our sponsors, Picanova, and saw lots of adorable pets featured.

We’d like to extend our congratulations to Louis, the official Boston Standard Star Pet of 2013!

Anne will have their favourite pet photograph produced as a canvas, acrylic or aluminium print of their choice (up to a value of £100), courtesy of www.picanova.co.uk!

We would like to thank all of the pets for sitting still long enough to have their photo taken, their owners for entering the competition, and all of the other readers who took part! It is a great pleasure for us to give readers the chance to see their friends (furry or otherwise) in their local newspaper, so thank you to everyone who made it possible.

We hope that Anne thoroughly enjoys her prize, and we look forward to seeing more Star Pets in the 2014 contest!

If you would like to be notified of the next contest (in advance), please register on the newspaper website to be contacted regarding future promotions.
