UKIP MEP for East Midlands Roger Helmer was in Boston with colleagues today to drum up party support.
Mr Helmer, who is also standing as MP in the Newark by-election, spoke to to The Standard about voters’ support and having to stand down as MEP if he is elected in Newark.
He was joined in the Market Place by fellow candidates Jonathan Bullock, Margot Parker, Nigel Wickens and Barry Mahoney who arrived in a ‘UKIP Battle Bus’.
His comments on gay marriage have recently caused controversy in the national newspapers. However, he commented in the Guardian recently to say he had modified his views on the subject by ‘catching the zeitgeist’.
