CROWDS had an oar-some time at Witham Way Country Park on Sunday when the town’s second Dragon Boat Fesitval took place.
Hundreds of people lined the river bank to watch the 25 teams which had entered go head to head in a series of heats.
Organiser David Witts said he felt the event had gone really well and that there were more supporters than at last year’s event.
He said: “Everybody had a great time. It was a great family day and the weather was kind to us.
“Last year was a success and this year was a big success.”
He estimated that provisionally the event had raised around £10,000 for charity, however money was still being counted.
The day’s gold medals were won by SLS Scaffolding with a racetime of 55.46.
The team also won a free meal at the Hong Kong Restaurant for having the best dressed team.
They were followed by Black Pearl (a surprising moment as the team had been fastest throughout the rest of the day) and Aaron’s Paddlers who won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Guy Priestley won the award for most money raised with £1,030, while TB Containers also won the crew with the most sponsorship award for raising more than £2,000.
A raffle held on the day raised £665.
The day also included a number of rides and stalls including beer tents, burger vans and more.
David added: “Everybody seemed to have a really, really good day and there were family picnics all along the river.
“It was great to see that part of the town being used.”
