The Standard has been made aware of a potential scam using the paper’s name to obtain credit card details and would like to warn people to be careful.
The incident reported to the Standard, describes someone called ‘Nick’ calling the victim claiming to sell a £20 ‘post-card sized’ advert which has recently been cancelled.
If anyone has been contacted with a similar call and is worried it may be a scam, please put the phone down.

If you already have an account with the paper, you should not need to provide your card details except under exceptional circumstances.
We will also not withhold our number when we call you.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of a scam should immediately call their bank along with Action Fraud’s reporting line 0300 123 2040.
