A FREISTON family have been left counting the cost after a tree fell on their gym during rough winds.

Shirley Coope, 56, said she was on the phone to her daughter when the large tree came crashing down on Thursday.

She said: “We were discussing the weather as she lives in Boston and I said crikey, it’s blowing.

“She said it had been clear where she lived and would be here in a few minutes.

“All of a sudden the lights went out and I turned around and saw the tree had fallen.”

She said the shed outside had been especially converted into a gym which her husband and son regularly used in the evening, so she was glad it had happened during the day while they were at work.

It included electrics and Calor gas bottles as well as weights and a multi-gym.

She added: “I tried to peer through the branches but I won’t know how it looks until the tree is all cleared up.”

Strong winds brought down a number of trees last week including one in Algarkirk which was cleared by two passing residents.

A police spokesman said: “Highways were understandably rushed off their feet and couldn’t give an eta of attendance so local residents came out with their own chainsaws to remove it.”
