TREES and wildlife have become something of a running theme for botanist Sir David Bellamy throughout his life – and that is exactly why he was invited to open a new woodland area in Boston.
The celebrity came to the borough to officially open Jenny’s Wood in the Sir Joseph Banks Park in Wyberton last Tuesday.
As patron of the Boston Woods Trust, which has set up the wood, he has seen it develop over several years, and a spokesman for the trust said he was thrilled to see the progress which had been made since his last visit.
Jenny’s Wood, on West End Road, has been created in memory of Jenny Melvin, who died of cancer several years ago.
Her husband Peter and father David Isaac were at the opening with Sir David, along with Boston Woods Trust chairman Adrian Isaac and vice-chairman Richard Austin. They were joined by volunteers and donators, as well as children from local schools.
