A plucky seven-year-old boy who said he just wanted to help ‘poorly people’ has raised £350 for The Butterfly Hospice by completing its Big Bike Ride fundraiser on Sunday.

James Burrell took part in the nine-mile ride in aid of the charity – and says he plans to tackle the full 33-mile route next year.

The main event saw riders biking from Lincoln to Boston Town Football Club, in Tattershall Road.

There was a shorter route of nine miles from Boston to Langrick and back which James, of Heckington, took part in.

James’ mum Donna Burrell, who owns Belvoir Lettings in Boston, said it was the furthest he has ever ridden: “He completed the nine miles very easily and he is going for the full 33 miles next time.”
