Appeal for information about dead airmen

ON JULY 24, 1942, an RAF aircraft flying from Portreath in Cornwall to Malta crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all of the crew.

One of these young men was John Orford Twelvetrees, aged 22.

He is buried in St Peter’s in New Bolingbroke and we believe that his family lived in that area at the time. He was the son of Mrs H. S. Twelvetrees and the stepson of Mr S. H. Twelvetrees.

Camborne town in Cornwall intends to hold a memorial service next year to mark 70 years since the passing of these brave airmen. We are trying to gather as much information as we can about the crew; we’d like to know a bit more about them than just their names, ranks and numbers. If anyone can remember John or his family and can tell us a bit more about them we’d be very grateful.
