Mr SMITH’S letter, November 23, is misinformed.
The public sector have not paid for their pensions – everyone comtributes, including our children, grandchildren and all in the future.
If the public sector received a pension based on their own contributions they would receive a fraction of their present entitlement.
The private sector employees have had to accept the reality that the defined benefits schemes they originally entered into are now unaffordable, and their pensions will be far less than originally ‘promised’.
The public sector should also accept this reality.
Mr Smith himself states ‘No one in the public sector is saying they are more deserving than anyone else’.
