I write this letter over the changes to council tax for empty properties.

Does this council believe that every landlord has a pot of money to hand out to them? The council want everyone to believe this is about getting empty properties back in use. We all know that it’s another way for a financially broke council to rake more money in the pot.

With dirty streets and poorly maintained roads and ridiculous demands on council tax, the old system of an empty property six months’ free and half price council tax after six months was fair.

The new system of only one month and the full council tax to pay is a disgraceful demand for money that will only result in landlords upping rent to allow for this, making a lot of tenants homeless and putting more pressure on the council.

It could also make landlords board up their properties around the town to evade paying any tax whatsoever making the town look even more run down.
