In May of this year, I finally fulfilled a dream I had had for 40 years. I became a presenter on Pilgrim Hospital Radio!
At last, I had the opportunity to entertain and brighten the lives of patients and staff alike.
The station is manned by dedicated volunteers, all with the same aim as myself, and is on the air Monday to Friday from 7-10pm most evenings.
As well as those of us who present the shows each evening, we have a group of wonderful people who visit the wards each day and ask if patients would like a request played for them.
These people are absolutely vital to the existence of the station as, if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t know if we were talking to anyone or just to ourselves.
We are always desperately keen to welcome new volunteers and I for one can tell everyone how much of a thrill it really is to know that we are bringing pleasure to those who are stuck in hospital for one reason or another.
If anyone is interested in joining us, please contact either the volunteer bureau at the Len Medlock Centre on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Alternatively you can contact the station direct by phone on 01205 351226 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
