LETTER: Town toilets poorly thought out

Boston Borough Council told you recently how delighted they are with their revamped public toilets.

Unfortunately the new toilets in the car park in St Georges Street have not been well thought out.

We have ended up with smelly toilets and the reason why is because Boston Conservative group forgot to install a proper splash back system to the new men’s toilets. They have just left an old aluminium urinal that does not stop splash backs so sadly the staff who clean our toilets spend all their time mopping up excess urine.

Boston Labour councillors believe that we should bring the design of our toilets in front of councillors at our scrutiny committee so we can make sure that we have the most appropriate equipment ensuring that we provide clean and hygienic toilets for all to use.

We believe that this type of equipment would not be acceptable to our environment officers if it was used in other premises, so we would urge Boston Borough Council to send in its environment officers to sort out this intolerable and unhygienic disaster that they have created.

Let’s protect the citizens of Boston and our visitors who wish to use the facilities and especially our loyal cleaning staff who spend all their time with additional and unnecessary cleaning which should have been anticipated and thought out before it was installed.
