Opportunity to learn languages should be available to everyone

I AM all for immigrants learning English, but I am told by Boston Borough Council that someone has been engaged to teach English to immigrants.

This must cost tens of thousands of pounds a year.

My question about whether immigrants paid for these lessons was unanswered, so I guess they do not have to pay.

We can, apparently, afford this despite the cuts, while local citizens often can’t afford to learn a language at evening classes because the fees are too high. The council tells me that much of the costs are met by grants, but who provides the money for these grants?

Almost certainly we do.

The money comes from our pockets and purses.

Let’s get our spending priorities right.
