We’ve had stars bigger than X Factor winner

WHILE wishing Boston Town success in their proposed concert in May, might I just correct Mr Vines’ assertion that ‘there hasn’t been a music act as big as this here since the glory days of the Gliderdrome’.

He’s obviously not aware that since 1996 the following appeared at that venue before it ceased putting on dances: Roy Wood (of Wizzard), the Stars of The Commitments (still touring both here and abroad, especially in the States), Marty Wilde, The Manfreds, Alvin Stardust, the late Edwin Starr, The Drifters (on several occasions), Slade and Showaddywaddy.

After appearing at the Gliderdrome in the Sixties, Ike and Tina Turner also appeared at the Haven Cinema shortly before it closed.

I would suggest that the above can claim to be stars that have appeared here since the ‘glory days’ and may even last longer than the ‘star’ appearing in May.
