Wear poppy with pride

DURING the 2010 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, through the generosity of those contributing to the appeal, a fantastic total in excess of £36 million was raised.

Since 1921 The Royal British Legion’s mission has been to help those members of the serving and ex-serving community who need it.

The British Legion continues to safeguard the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces.

The Poppy Appeal provides the main source of funds to maintain the Legion’s many welfare and benevolent schemes in which over 100,000 people are helped each year.

For this year’s Poppy Appeal we are focusing on our support for the Afghan generation of the Armed Forces family. Since 2003 the Legion has helped more than 10,000 serving, ex-service and family members who are part of the Afghan and Iraq generation.

With the Afghan conflict continuing at its current intensity it is inevitable that this number will continue to rise and we intend to be there for them and their families today and for the rest of their lives.

The Royal British Legion is again undertaking a ‘Poppy People’ campaign to attract Poppy Appeal volunteers. If you are over 16 years of age and feel that you can help in this campaign, then ring freephone 0800 085 5924.

We being civic representatives of this county take this opportunity to ask you to continue to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and that you continue to wear your poppy with pride.
