Miss Frances Louisa Brotherton

FRANCES Louisa Brotherton has died at the White Gables Nursing Home, Kirton, after suffering illness. She was 96.
Born in the town, Miss Brotherton spent her whole life in the area.

She started her working life at the fever hospital as a cook before becoming a children’s nanny.

Her employment was terminated when the children’s father, an army officer, was
killed in action.

She then trained as a nurse at London Road Hospital, where she worked until retirement.

Miss Brotherton, who leaves two sisters and a brother, was an active church member and was secretary of the Children’s Society.

She also helped as a volunteer at the baby clinic at Kirton Town Hall.

The funeral took place at Kirton Parish Church, followed by cremation.

It was officiated by Father David Carney.

Chief family mourners were: Miss Gertrude Brotherton (sister), Mrs Clarice Harley (sister), Mr Cecil Brotherton (brother), Mr C. Brotherton, Mr and Mrs M.J. Brotherton, Mr E. Harley (nephews and wife), Mr and Mrs J.D. Robertson, Mrs C.M. Wainwright, Mr and Mrs J. Ghest, Mr and Mrs D. Cammack, Mrs W. King (nieces and husbands), Mr I.W. Brotherton (great nephew), Mrs D. Brotherton (great-niece), Mr and Mrs M. Doughty (great-niece and husband), Mrs M. Woolhouse (cousin), Mrs S. Woolhouse (half-cousin).

Unable to attend: Mr and Mrs B. King, Mr and Mrs G. King, Mr and Mrs R. Thompson (newphews and wives), Mrs D. Winrose (great-niece), Mrs D. Jones (niece), Mr and Mrs G. Taylor (niece and husband).

Arrangements by F.E. Addlesee and Son.
