Tuesday, 1.15pm - FOUR teams from Boston Tennis Club reached the regional stages of the Junior National Club League team tennis event… but came back with mixed results.
The four boys' teams at under 10, under 12, under 16 and under 18 levels all progressed from the county stages of the competition.

Hopes were dashed for the under 16s and under 10s at the regional quarters, but the under 18 boys made the regional semi-finals and the under 12s have reached the regional final – with just this round standing between themselves and a place in the nationals.

The under 12s won through an exciting quarter-final against Bolton Arena.

It was a home draw for the team of Joe Woolley, Tjaart Broodryk, Henry Warren and Daniel Scott, and they made an impressive start, winning three of the singles rubbers and narrowly losing out on the fourth.

The doubles round proved tricky and both rubbers went to a third set, Boston losing out to leave the match score equal at six points apiece.

A shoot-out then took place between Bolton and Boston, Joe Woolley and Tjaart Broodryk facing the doubles pair to whom they had just lost.

It was a close championship tie-break, 10-8 in Boston's favour – which put the team through to the semis.

Sunday was the scheduled date for the semi-finals and the opposition Puma, from Sunderland, necessitating a trip north for the team of Woolley, Broodryk, Warren and Scott.

This time it was a better scoreline for the team, Boston winning 10-2 to leave them looking forward to the regional final against Carnegie on July 20.

The under 18s will play the regional semi at home next Sunday when their opposition will be Congleton.

Meanwhile the under 10s faced tough opposition in their regional quarter-final.

A strong team from Nottingham played the Boston team of Henry Beesley, Jonathan Trevor, Owen Sill and Ben Hutson, and although there were some great performances from the Boston boys, Beesley taking a top-ranked junior to three sets, at the end of the day the Nottingham boys proved too strong and ended the Boston under 10s' great run in the competition for this year.

Also on the Junior National Club League team scene, the Second Division county matches are taking place.

The under 16 boys played Grantham and won 6-0 courtesy of a fine display from the team of Calum McCaig, Ben Mills, Tom Emmerson and Robert Price.

McCaig, Price and Will Coley were also in action in an under 16 Grade Five tournament held at Boston on Sunday afternoon.

Calum had an excellent run, reaching the final only to lose out to Glenn Perkins from Spalding.

The under 12 C team braved the showers on Saturday to play a team from Skegness, and the match resulted in a win for the team of Alex Gordon, David Cheer and Lewis Wyatt.

The Boston and District Mixed League saw a close match between Boston One and Boston Two.

Boston One – Will Mason, Danielle Frankish, Geoff Short, Andrea Jackson, Simon Bush and Ashleigh Frankish – had a 5-4 edge over Boston Two's Mike Burnett, Catherine Smura, Chris Beale, Yvonne Cropley, Callum Simmonds and Joan Beale.

Boston Three had an 8-1 result against Spilsby.

The Boston Three team on this occasion comprised Sam Kemp, Rachel Brook, Ray Frankish, Helen Cook, Alex Cobb and Sarah Moysey.
