United to go back to basics

Friday, 9.45am - IT'S back to basics time at Boston United.
Caretaker boss Steve Welsh plans to get his Pilgrims playing the beautiful game with simplicity as he aims to stop the rot that has seen them slump into the UniBond Premier's drop zone.
Welsh's first game in charge, after Tommy Taylor left the club on Tuesday, saw the amber and blacks lose 3-2 at home to Frickley Athletic on Wednesday night.
"We haven't got much time, but we need to get things right," said Welsh, who will take his side to FC United of Manchester for their FA Trophy contest on Sunday (KO 3pm).
"We've got to go back to basics, do the simple things well."
Welsh spent a day viewing the video of last night's defeat and will also haul his side into training before Sunday's contest.
"Because there have been so many midweek games the team hasn't trained together much for a few weeks - they're almost like a team of strangers," he added, before confirming the youth team will turn out for Boston in next week's UniBond Cup match at Spalding Town.
"The kids will get a game," Welsh said. "The league's our priority, not the UniBond Cup.
"That gives me some more time to work with the first team. we're trying to put in a structure that will suit us as soon as posible.
"And I need to put the smile back on their faces."
Although not singling striker Jon Froggatt for criticism, Welsh used him as an example of what is happening with the squad.
"Froggy epitomises what's happening. Last year he was scoring for fun, this season he can't buy a goal."
