YOUNG sports fans gained a Commonwealth of experience as they took part in Boston College’s The Games sports event.
The multi-sports competition, held at the Princess Royal Sports Arena, pitted young sportsmen and women from local schools against one another.
But on hand to offer tips and encouragement were Melanie Marshall and Callum Johnson - two of the town’s top sports stars.
Wrangle swimmer Marshall became England’s most successful competitor at a single Olympic Games when she claimed six gongs at Melbourne in 2006.
She has also competed at two Olympic Games.
Johnson, a Boston-based boxer, won gold when representing Scotland at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
He is now an unbeaten light-heavyweight professional.
The day’s winners are pictured with Marshall and Johnson.
