Boston runners help South Lincs to titles

IN THE Team results of the Lincolnshire Schools Cross-country Championships, South Lincolnshire Zone (which includes the Boston district) won two of the age group championships.

They also finished second in two others.

In the under 13 girls’ section, South Lincs had 49 points, which gave them an 11-point margin of victory over runners-up Lincoln and Gainsborough.

Boston High School’s Nesta Baxter had a fine run on the Coronation Channel course at Spalding, finishing in a splendid second position to earn a place in the Lincolnshire team for the Anglian Counties Championships.

With South Lincs also providing the the individual champion in this age group, Nesta’s splendid performance put the team well on the way to a good victory.

The under 15 boys’ runners from South Lincs lost the team championship by the narrowest of margins, finshing on 51 points.

That was just one point behind Lincoln and Gainsborough.

With Cameron Marshall in second place, Haven High Technology College also had another representatve in the top 12 finishing positions.

Liam Adams ran in determined fashion, crossing the line fourth of the South Lincolnshire contingent to claim an impressive 11th place.

At under 13 girls’ level, the South Lincs team finished third of the four zones.

Boston High School’s Isobel Rushby was third team counter in 11th, sharing a Lincs. team selection for the Anglian Inter-Counties event.

The under 19 girls’ team secured victory and the under 19 boys’ runners from South Lincs were in second place.

Selected teams now go forward to represent Lincolnshire in the Anglian Schools Inter-County match at Ipswich.

Opposition will be provided by runners from Suffolk, Norfolk, Northants. and Cambridgeshire.
