Boston squash stars ready to face the cream of the county

Thursday, 12 noon - THE Lincolnshire County Closed Squash Championships 2010 will take place at Boston Squash and Racketball Club this weekend, when the county's top squash players will compete for this year's bragging rights.

Forty different entrants will play over five different events; the men's, men's over 35s, men's over 45s, men's over 55s and women's categories, and Boston will be represented in number - with 13 different entrees hailing from the host club, and some of them entering multiple categories.

Men's county champion Martin Gibson appears odds-on to retain his title in the main event, but he will have to fend off number two seed Dean Hiatt.

In the draw, Boston players include Roberto Rocci, Jake Fountain and Jason Green in the round of 32, while Stuart Garner, Adam Hildred, Dave Doherty and Ady Proctor have byes into the next round.

Ady, Jason and Roberto are also participating in the men's over 35s event.

Other Boston players in the tournament include John Secker in the men's over 35s, Mark Hildred as the number one seed in both the men's over 35s and 45s, Dave Stones as the number two seed in the men's over 45s, and Paul Smith, Bob Pearson and Dave Parsons in the men's over 55s.

In the men's over 55s competition, Paul Tudor is ranked number-one seed, while Fran and Sophie Wallis will battle it out in the women's final.

The championships will be open for the public to come and watch down Rosebery Avenue, with play throughout the day on Saturday - followed by the finals on Sunday afternoon.
