Boston United: How they rated at Retford

Wednesday, 3pm - WHICH Pilgrims stood out last night? Sports reporter Duncan Browne rates the United heroes of last night...

Tom Evans – A dominant presence in his penalty area, claiming his crosses well and offering Retford little hope of beating him. Helpless to stop Chris Bettney's dipping free kick. 8 (out of 10)

Liam Parker – Pushed out to right back, but hacked and hoofed clear every ball that Retford put near him. 7

Shaun Pearson – Fantastic, forceful and unflappable yet again. Pearson is worth every penny the club paid for him and repaid his side with yet another goal. 8 – STAR MAN

Lee Canoville – Gave away a needless free kick which led to the Badgers' equaliser, but the United captain was yet again an assured presence in the heart of defence. 7

Chris Wood – Wood can appear to have a quiet game, usually by doing the right things at the right time with an air of simplicity. Again he defended well down the left. 7

Marc Newsham – Didn't make fantastic in-roads down the wing, but looked to get forward and worry Retford. 7

Anthony Church – Exactly the kind of player you need in a match like this. Church can be a loose cannon at times, but he played with discipline and scrapped and tussled when he needed to. 8

Danny Sleath – Sleath put in his best performance in a Pilgrims shirt to date. His little legs never stopped running in the centre of the park and capped his evening off with a rare headed goal. 8

Ryan Semple – A relatively quiet match on the right-hand side, but showed some nice touches and put in some good crosses. 6

Danny Davidson – Twinkle toes Davidson discovered some Champions League feet last night as his keen first touch and brave dribbling belied his big-man stature. Caused panic in the home defence every time he ran at them. 8

Spencer Weir-Daley – The striker with the footballing brain was dragging his marker out of the game with clever off-the-ball running. Put in across for Sleath's goal. 7

SUBSTITUTES:

James Cullingworth (for Newsham 71) – Left with a cut on his face after the rumble at Retford, but the second-half sub played a good game, strengthening the defence after replacing Marc Newsham. 7

Mikel Suarez (for Davidson 88) – Given little time to make an impact but his fresh-legs held the ball up well in the dying seconds. 6

Jamie Yates (for Ryan Semple 90) – Just a cameo for Yatesy, but as Rob Scott said: "Everybody played their part." 6

Not used - Adam Millson, Aaron Butcher.

Keep logging on to read James Cullingworth's take on the rumble at Retford.
