After two weeks with Boston United Cooney is Corby's latest signing

A Boston United player who has only played one game for the team is set to move on again after only a couple of weeks with the club.

Youngster Tommy Cooney has joined Corby Town on loan for remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old Southern Irishman, joined Boston a couple of weeks ago from Evo-Stick Premier First Division North side Brighouse Town.

His only appearance for the club was in the 3-1 home win against Hednesford Town.

A spokesman for Boston United said: “He was only signed as cover for the Hednesford game, never really a long time thing for the club and he has left us for the chance of regular First Team Football.”

A few months after turning 16, Cooney made the move to Fulham for trials during pre-season and from there he signed with Adidas Academy scholarship programme.

After he played for Brentford for two years, he went to Millwall for trials until injury stuck with two groin strain injuries leading to him being released from the team.

He then a couple of trials with Bury and Shrewsbury, and held talks with Guiseley but then he joined Brighouse Town in December.

Cooney is in contention to make his Corby debut on Saturday when they are away to Bradford Park Avenue.
