EXCLUSIVE! “I’ve got my wish” says Dennis Greene after joining Boston United

New Boston United boss Dennis Greene says he has landed his dream job.

The former Chelmsford City and Wycombe Wanderers player will take charge of the Pilgrims for the first time tonight, after taking over from the axed Graham Drury.

Having won back-to-back promotions as manager of St Neots Town and gaining Blue Square Bet North experience with Histon, Greene applied for the vacant job earlier this season.

But having missed out to Drury, he received a call from chairman David Newton offering him the role after the club went seven matches without a win.

“When I left St Neots I thought there were two clubs that I’d want to manage,” he told The Standard.

“They were Chelmsford, where I used to play, and Boston United.

“Both are big clubs which should be in the Conference national.

“I was shocked to get the call (from Newton), but now I’ve got my wish.”

Guiding United back to the non-league’s top flight is something Greene believes he can do.

He has the job until the end of the season, but wants to lift Boston out of the relegation scrap and get the gig on a full-time basis.

“I like to play open, flowing football, but you can’t always do that in a relegation fight,” Greene added.

“You have to take each game as it comes.

“But I want to lift the club up the table.

“The players also have to to show me they want to be here next season.

“If they don’t they could find themselves playing at lesser clubs next season.

“The important thing is moving up the table. But after that I want to help bring the club promotion.”

United host Gloucester City tonight (KO 7.45pm).
