Greene challenges Boston United attackers Johnson and Lavelle-Moore to make this their breakthrough season

But he is now challenging the pair to prove him right this season.

Johnson - who joined the club last summer from Rossington Main - remains under contract for another campaign, while Lavelle-Moore has been invited back to for pre-season training.

The former Notts County youth team product was hotly tipped to have a promising career in the pro game.

But when he arrived at Boston midway through last season, Greene suggested the talent had ‘lost his way’ in the game after spells with Torquay United and Rushall Olympic.

The manager is keeping the faith with the forward who made four appearances, four from the bench, last season.

“Malachi has the full package, plenty of talent - he just needs a chance to prove it,” Greene said. “Last season he didn’t really get a chance. He came to us when we were going for promotion and we had players like Dayle (Southwell) banging the goals in.

“We had a settled side so it was hard for him to break in. But we’ve asked him to come back this year because we believe he’s got something to offer the team.

“Hopefully we can give him his chance and hopefully he can take it.”

Johnson caught Greene’s eye after scoring against the Pilgrims for Main after just 23 seconds into a friendy fixture last July.

But since then he had made 17 appearances and - like Lavelle-Moore - is yet to find the net for Boston.

However, 16 of those appearances were as a sub and Greene believes the youngster has a talent worth nurturing.

“Cameron has bags of talent, I really believe he’s one for the future,” Greene added.

“He’s full of energy and running and has really impressed in training.

“Cam’s played well for us when we’ve brought him on, but this year I want to see him progress more and show everyone what he can really do.”
