Southwell reached his landmark in just 81 appearances, netting as Boston United won 2-1 at FC United of Manchester.

“He’s something else, absolutely something else,” Greene said.

“He’s been an unbelievable player to manage, his attitude and professionalism, his work rate and training on the pitch.

“Every time you’ve got Dayle on the pitch you believe he can score a goal, and more often than not he does.”

The Pilgrims’ play-off dreams are now in their own hands.

They remain fifth in the National League North and although Nuneaton are four points behind with two games in hand, they still have to face Boston at the Jakemans Stadium.

If Greene’s side win their final four matches, they are assured a top-five finish.

“It is definitely in our own hands, I felt it was before,” Greene continued.

“I said Nuneaton wouldn’t win seven games and they’ve dropped two points today at home to Telford.

“There are some tough games, they’re away to Gloucester midweek, away to Harrogate midweek and away to us as well.

“Every game’s tough in this league.

“We’ve got to keep going and if we keep winning, it’s only four games left, we’ll be in.”
