Greene demands Boston United take the game to Stalybridge

The Pilgrims host Celtic in the National League North on Saturday (KO 3pm), and the manager is adamant that a furious opening spell could be the key to claiming three points.

“They’ll be a typical Liam Watson side, big and strong,” Greene said.

“But they don’t always score a lot of goals.

“The important thing is to get in front in the game.

“If we can do that then it forces them to come out more.”

After 26 matches, Celtic have netted 40 times but conceded 48 goals.

United were without a fixture on Saturday and expected their play-off rivals to begin gaining ground on them.

However, heavy rainfall left all but one fixture in the division postponed.

Greene sees Mother Nature’s intervention as a bonus as it will mean those playing catch-up on the Pilgrims will have to add another midweek fuxture to their already busy schedules.

“Midweek games aren’t always as easy to prepare for as Saturdays,” Greene continued.

“It makes things that bit tougher for them. Hopefully that will help us.”

With rivals failing to catch United, the Pilgrims remain third in the standings.

And with that in mind, Greene is calling on his side to take three points against Stalybridge and continue to put the pressure on those teams around them.

He added: “It’s a massive game for us on Saturday and we want to go out and win it, definitely.

“We can only win our games, but hope that results go for us elsewhere.”

Left back Tommy Cooney has left the Jakemans Stadium for Corby Town, having made just one appearance for the club.
