“Having a new manager gives you that something extra!” Tom Ward welcomes Dennis Greene to Boston United

Defender Tom Ward say that he was shocked to learn of Graham Drury’s sacking - but believes the squad will be eager to impress new boss Dennis Greene.

In another action-packed night for the Pilgrims, one manager has departed and another arrived.

But ahead of tomorrow’s Blue Square Bet North clash with Gloucester City (KO 7.45pm), Ward says his focus is firmly on picking up points.

“We always give 100 per cent in every game. But having a new manager sometimes gives you that bit extra as everyone’s out to impress and try to get a place in the team,” he told The Standard.

“For me personally, it’s about doing the best we can for Boston United.”

The squad will meet their new boss ahead of tomorrow’s clash with the Tigers.

Ward added: “It’ll be an interesting dressing room for everyone tomorrow.

“But it’ll be a good opportunity for us all to show each other what we’ve got.”

Ward admits to knowing little about ex-Histon boss Greene.

However, he will turn to his grandfather Brian Rowland, the respected former Sleaford Town manager, for advice after he came across Greene during his days in the St Neots dug-out.

When asked about Drury’s swift departure, Ward said he didn’t expect the dismissal.

He added: “He’d only been in the job a short time, so you expect him to be here longer.

“But obviously the chairman didn’t think so.

“We picked up six points from 33 available and that’s not good enough.”
