The 18-year-old midfielder made his Pilgrims debut in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Chorley, linking up with the club on a month’s youth loan from Notts County.

McMillan told The Standard that Magpies teammate Richards, who had a successful spell at the Jakemans Stadium last season, convinced him that United would be a great place for his first taste of senior football.

“Jordan Richards, from Notts, I’m close to him and he told me a lot about the standard here,” he said.

“It developed him as a player a lot and hopefully that’ll do the same to me.

“I just want to get the experience I need.

“It’s the physical side I’m lacking and hopefully this club will help me develop as a player.

“I want to enjoy my time at Boston, play every minute I can.”

United have also previously brough Greg Tempest, Kyle Dixon and Lartey Sarpon in on loan from Notts, but relations between the two clubs soured last season after Richards was recalled early from his loan and sent out to join Sligo Rovers.

However, a change of personnel in the youth set-up at Meadow Lane has paved the way for McMillan’s arrival.

The teenager could make his home debut against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday (KO 3pm).

He said: “I’m looking forward to it.

“We want to do well at home and get some more points.”
