Sedge aims higher

BOSTON United new boy Ben Sedgemore has tipped the Pilgrims to climb further out of the UniBond Premier's drop zone.

The midfielder made his amber and black debut during United's goalless draw with Witton Albion on Saturday, earning a man-of-the-match bottle of bubbly for his efforts.

The stalemate left the Pilgrims a point away from league safety with three games in hand.

"There's a good spirit in the camp – now we've got to translate that into points," said the 33-year-old.

"There are good players in there, but whether they've got the confidence right now, I don't know.

"Boston's a great club and there's no reason why we shouldn't be pushing up the table.

"We haven't got off to a good start, but it's now February and we can get on a good run and turn it around. It's about putting points on the board."

Sedgemore's career has included spells with Northampton, Mansfield, Peterborough, Macclesfield, Canvey Island, Cambridge, Rushden & Diamonds and Kings Lynn, but he is best known to Pilgrims fans for his spell with rivals Lincoln City.

He joins manager Steve Welsh, Matt Bloomer and Ollie Ryan, plus loanee Gary King, as former Lincoln players eager to turn United from Imp-otent to Imp-ressive.

And there could be another former Sincil Bank player on his way too.

Welsh has enquired about King's Lynn midfielder Mark Camm, although bringing him to York Street looks like a tough ask.

"It's up to Mark now – we've made him as good an offer as we can afford," Welsh said.

"If we can bring him in it'd be great, but he's paid a lot of money by King's Lynn."

However, judging by the swiftness of Sedgemore's arrival, Boston will never say never.

Sedgemore said: "It's pretty amazing how it came about. I went training with Corby on Thursday night when Welshy put in a call… then I ended up here on Saturday."
