Despite an appeal to volunteers to help clear the York Street pitch of snow, Boston United’s match against Gloucester City has been postponed.

The Pilgrims were confident they could get today’s Blue Square Bet North match to go ahead.

So much so that they had already appealed to supporters to turn up at 9am with their shovels to help clear the pitch.

However, last night’s dip in temperature meant that an 8.15am pitch inspection saw the surface branded unplayable.

The inspection was held early to make sure the Tigers wouldn’t have to start their journey, only to be told en route that a U-turn would be neccessary.

Grounds staff kept the snow on the pitch this week in a bid to insulate the ground and help it remain playable.

However, on this occasion Mother Nature came out on top.

This is Boston’s third consecutive match to be postponed, following similar fates at Harrogate and Altrincham.

Dates for the Altrincham and Gloucester games are yet to be re-arranged.
