Caretaker boss Graham Hyde described his Boston United side as ‘shambolic’ after they lost 4-0 at Vauxhall Motors on Saturday.

All four goals came inside the opening 34 minutes - and Hyde believes it was far from the right response after the sacking of Jason Lee.

He said: “In the first half we were shambolic as a team.

“We were feeling sorry for ourselves and waiting for them to score.

“It’s been a difficult week, but I wanted them to turn up and be difficult to play against and we never had that.”

The Pilgrims’ winless run stretched to seven matches after a first-half horror show.

In the warm-up keeper Dan Haystead pulled up with a foot injury, to be replaced by Ricky Drury.

But the stopper could do nothing to stop Tom Rutter scoring from inside the penalty area twice within 14 minutes.

Dan Fearnehough and Ashley Stott both converted close-range headers before Louis Barnes’ penalty hit Drury’s post.
